Tom McClintock, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 5th district since 2009, addressed immigration enforcement and recent legislation in a series of tweets posted on July 15 and July 16, 2025.
On July 15, McClintock commented on procedures regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests. He wrote, “A lot of misconceptions about ICE “arrests.” Current law requires that EVERY adult illegal alien be detained, but unless they’re being held on a criminal charge, a detained alien is free to go anytime they want. They just aren’t free to go back into our country.”
The following day, McClintock posted two additional messages referencing his recent public statements and legislative developments. In one tweet dated July 16, he shared a link to extended remarks: “Check out the full version of my remarks here: https://t.co/Ui67wqh5Bt”. In another tweet from the same date, he questioned the impact of new legislation: “So how will average Americans fare now that the Big, Beautiful Bill is law? https://t.co/dS1g7GUGgh”.
McClintock has represented California’s 5th District in Congress since replacing John Doolittle in 2009. Prior to his congressional service, he served in both chambers of the California legislature—from 1996 to 2000 in the State Assembly and from 2000 to 2008 in the State Senate. Born in White Plains, New York in 1956 and currently residing in Elk Grove at age 66, McClintock earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA in 1988.
