Tom McClintock, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 5th district since 2009, recently addressed issues surrounding California’s redistricting process and highlighted local energy initiatives in a series of posts on social media.
On August 25, 2025, McClintock criticized Governor Gavin Newsom’s approach to redistricting, stating: “California is protected from this kind of power grab by our constitution that took this power away from the politicians and gave it to an independent reapportionment commission and it is that protection that Newsom is tearing down.”
The following day, McClintock shared his experience visiting a renewable energy facility: “It was a pleasure to tour the Tuolumne Biomass plant in Jamestown. Their facility takes brush from forest floors and turns it into products that you can find at your local supermarkets like wood straw, biochar, and wood chips. They’re using brush to invest in careers that” (August 26, 2025).
Later on August 26, McClintock commented further on the state’s redistricting process: “This Gavinmander was drafted behind closed doors in a matter of days.”
McClintock has represented California’s 5th District in Congress since succeeding John Doolittle in 2009. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the California State Assembly from 1996 to 2000 and the California Senate from 2000 to 2008. Born in White Plains, New York in 1956 and currently residing in Elk Grove, McClintock graduated from UCLA with a BA in 1988.
